You mustn’t give your heart
to wild things like us, darling
we’re too busy running
bare feet through the woods
we break too many hearts
trying to run against the wind
Honestly, darling.
You can’t claim our wings when
we haven’t even learn to fly.
freedom
Poem – Freedom?
His first steps outside prison
Brought him to a standstill
As he blinked uncertainly
At the world in front
Paralysed by fear
Like a bird that has known
The limits of a cage so long
It finds comfort in cold bars
And so stands by the window sill
Free, but bound by leaden wings.
